Serve as a Literacy Partner or Mentor

In 2009, the church community asked city leaders what it could do to make a lasting impact in Central Texas. The answer was simple: help fight illiteracy and school dropout rates.

Today, Education Connection partners with schools across Central Texas to connect caring volunteers with elementary students for weekly one-on-one reading sessions. Literacy Partners spend just 30 minutes each week reading with students, helping build literacy skills, confidence, and a love of reading.

With thousands of students benefiting from the support of community volunteers, there is still a great need for caring adults willing to invest their time and encouragement in a child. Consider serving as a Literacy Partner at a school near you and help empower the next generation of readers.

About Education Connection

Our mission is simple, straightforward, and achievable. We want every child to learn how to read by the end of 3rd grade. Hear from Literacy Partner coordinators and school administrators about the difference our volunteers can make in the life of a child.

Heart 2 Heart & Braveheart

Heart 2 Heart is a weekly, after-school club for 5th grade girls (H2H) and boys (Braveheart) dedicated to providing an accepting and loving environment where they can develop lifelong values through fun activities and lessons in virtue. A primary goal of these ministries is to help them realize their true self-worth and develop the beauty of inner character. It is designed to teach and encourage them to embrace a life that is “Honest, Excellent, Admirable, Responsible, and remind them constantly that they are a "Treasure.” H2H has been around LISD for over 15 years.
